In Touch With Kate Winslet

For Kate Winslet, it's all about being comfortable in her own skin

Kate Winslet never set out to be a role model. But thanks to her refusal to become another stick-thin leading lady, she's become just that. "It's important for me to stand by the fact that I eat real food and am not on a diet every day of my life," says Kate who plays an adulterous wife in Little Children.
Besides, the mother of Mia, 6, and Joe, 2 - who married director Sam Mendes in 2003- has better things to do with her time than obesess about her weight. "My body does not dominate my thoughts," says Kate, 31. "Ninety-five percent of my day is not spent thinking about doing ab crunches!"

Is it tought having a healthy body image in Hollywood?
There is so much pressure in this business to have the perfect body. I'm sorry, but I have boobs and a backside.

Would you ever consider having plastic surgery?
I don't think I will because as I do get older, I'm becoming more relaxed about body image.

How do you stay in shape?
A little bit of running on the treadmill every now and then helps. It bores the hell out of me, but you've got to do it.

You're a hands-on Mom.
Well, my kids are young and I don't want to miss anything. So, I'm a loving and very present mother, and every now and then I go off to work for a while.

Does your husband help out?
I am so blessed and lucky that I have a husband who says, "It's 6:15, you get in the shower, I'll make the coffee."

Do you have time for yourself?
It is difficult, but I would much rather have that time with my kids, anyway. It's more of a struggle to find time to go out with my husband.

Does it help being a mom to play one in Little Children?
I wouldn't have been able to play this part if I wasn't a mother. Your whole body language is completely dictated by that fact that you have children.

How was it filming a racy sex scene with Patrick Wilson?
It's really weird but at a point you forget you're naked with a relative stranger!

Your character isn't glamourous.
It was fun to play somebody who's not supposed to look great. I was like, "Let's put her in the worst shirt and overalls you've ever seen." I was in heaven!
